Holiday.
This 4th of July weekend, we are opting to stay home and have a friend or two over to shoot off fireworks! Smaller is better, isn't it? Due to life everyone is cutting back. Somehow, cutting back is better isn't it? Helps us concentrate on what is really important!
Today our youngest son, was able to pick up a new bicycle! He has been saving up for awhile! He has been wanting one for awhile, we found him one at a yard sale a year or maybe two ago. He rode it, until it fell apart! We have actually taped the seat, replaced tires and the chain...! ha! Wow!
Anyway, we decided this too could be a learning experience. So, over the past several months, he has been doing odd jobs for neighbors and extra chores here at home and with the help of a special family was able to work really hard this weekend to get the final dollars needed for his purchase!
Some jobs he worked for cents on the dollar, some jobs he came away with a couple of bucks. Little dude worked hard. Time was on his side, however as once people knew he needed money they started scheduling his help. He has swept porches, pulled weeds, mowed yards, helped clean out garages, picked up sticks, rocks, shoveled mulch all sorts of good stuff! It was fun to see that hard work, character, and money build up!
Not sure what his next goal is.. he now has a taste of money that he is capable of making, so he is dreaming for awhile!
On another note....
The best of intentions! Isn't it funny how we think we have plans? ha! We thought we did for the 4th! Yes, we still got to see some friends and cookout, but God sent us down a different road.
God showed off some of his fireworks through a good summer storm right around fireworks time! We saw a rather ominous cloud, very close to a funnel cloud, called a shelf cloud. Eeks! A local fireworks display was halted and rescheduled for Sunday night due to the storms. Thankfully we were all okay, just some stuff blown around.
We were able to grill out some brats and share around a small fire pit before the storm rolled in. The tornado sirens sounded in the distance while we watched it roll in. Memories, right?
While the storm brewed outside we chatted about Steve McNair and his untimely death. There has been a lot of that lately. Time is precious, life is short. Love those around you! Share Christ!
Finally around 10:45 we went out to shoot off a few fireworks. Good times! I imagine there will be more fireworks in the neighborhood tonight as last night was pretty much rained out!

Summer movies are here!
It's that time of year! Summer!
Warm weather, water play, longer days,no school, blockbuster summer movies..
Today we joined hundreds if not thousands of people who tuned into watch the new Transformer movie. It was sold out last night at midnight.
Overall, awesome! One of the best movies I've seen in awhile! Oh, I've seen some that made me cry, or made me more aware of a life situation, some that I've laughed at... but today. Man, it was fun!
I remember Transformers from when I was a kid. It was a big boy thing, but there were several of us girls that liked them also. I remember having a small one that folded down into a jeep. Fun stuff. Back then, I had to imagine the adventures.
Today, man, the special effects were dazzling! The sound effects were right on target. The story line was great, with comedy sprinkled in to keep the scene going. We were all on the edge of our seat rooting for the good guys all the way through! Good stuff!
Overall, it was fabulous and spectacular. It called up all sorts of emotions in the audience as a whole,as a well written one should. Good conquers over evil, there were many lessons to be learned.. I'm focusing on those, and some of those special effects! Wow!

Following Through
Over the past few days, I've been so disappointed. Why? Because of folks that say they will do something, and then don't. No courtesy call, nothing. Did they fall off the edge of the earth? No.
Hmmm. How hard is it to call and say you can't make it, or better yet, don't promise something that you have no intention of doing? The preparation that goes into a meeting, or someone coming over, that shouldn't be ignored.
I've recently been told that this happens not only in the private sector, but also in business. Employers are actually looking for people that will do what they say they will do. I heard one say, "If I could just get folks to come in on time." Seriously? How is it that this person is still employed?
Really? In this economy, there are folks that don't have a job, that need a job, that can't find a job. And now I'm told that there are individuals out there that don't have the morals to give their "employer" the due time they are paying for? Wow!
As a parent, I try to shelter the boys from other folks "inadequacies". (I'm good at excusing bad behavior for others). We all have bad days, right? I mean, I'm no saint, and don't claim to be. However, I will call someone if I'm going to be late, I will leave early for an appointment just to help me make it on time.
The boys as most kids, are able to point out the "character flaws" all on their own.
For instance, I had a birthday this weekend. No biggie. Part of that time was to be spent with some friends. Well, seems that one friend was going to be stopping by the house with a gift, and wanted to spend some time with me. Yay! I was excited and ready to hang out. What happened? You guessed it.. no show. I call, and she has decided that she is out and about. I can see her if I want to come out and shop too.
My middle schooler says," Mom you know how she is, we never know if she will come or not, EVER!" He happens to care if she comes, as he is best buds with her son. IF she comes, so does he and the happiness begins. There have been numerous occassions where those two (boys) were to get together, just for them to never show up. When called on it, there were a million excuses, if I can get her on the phone.. Since this has become an occurance, we just call it ____(insert her name) time. Meaning... Tell her something starts at about 30ish minutes before it does so she will only be an hour or so late..or you have a better chance of winning the lottery than actually getting her to show up or do what she said she would do. Or meaning that she is obviously in her own time zone, as the one she said she would meet me in is out of her area of service apparently! hmmm.
I think the boys are learning this lesson. We are desperately trying to show them how hurtful that can be. How valued folks are - that are dependable! When following through, keeping up with the words you proclaim, lets folks know what is important to them. Your busines, your friendship, your time.
